Over the past few years [redacted] has sent me songs to fuck with, I fuck with them, send them back, and then they disappear.
Two weeks ago [redacted] sent me three songs. I finished them in two days, sent them back, and they said, “Thanks.”
I thought, “No, goddammit, these songs shall not disappear into the unorganized filing system of [redacted], they’re too good.” So that night I slammed together ten of the songs they’ve sent me over the past few years, sent the zip to them, and said, “These are your songs, I’m putting them out. Come up with a band name or I’ll name it for you.”
They said,’ These are good. I’d really like to re-record them.”
“Cool, I’m on board. Let’s do it… but these songs are going to be released like this.”
After plying [redacted] with a few beers and a whiskey or two at some of Portland’s finest SE dive bars, they said, “You’re going to make me put this out, aren’t you?”
“This is my album now. I don’t care what you say. So yeah… I suppose I am going to make you put it out.”
They held up their hand, defiantly, and said, “Look, I appreciate your opinion. But I’m an artist. And as an artist…”
I stopped them and said, “Hey, you’re a friend so I’m gonna stop you right there. No sentence that has ever started with “As an artist…” hasn’t ended without someone getting swiftly and brutally kicked in the nethers. Do what you have to do. These songs are fucking awesome, they’re getting released.”
So here there are. Your lawyers are no match for my level of Not Giving a Fuck.
